Find your ideal Tromen.
For this challenge, Tromen has used dual-fuel wood-burning equipment, known for its robustness and capacity to generate many kilocalories, essential qualities to withstand the extreme temperatures of the region. This project represents a significant commitment to the people who work and live in these extreme environments. By taking the equipment to such extreme conditions, Tromen demonstrated that it can heat anywhere, while supporting those who perform critical work in Antarctica.
One of the outstanding innovations of this project is the use of local waste as fuel. Instead of transporting this waste back to the mainland, it was transformed into firewood for the salamanders, thus achieving a dual function: waste disposal and heat generation.
"We are very proud with this project and to collaborate with Antarctica in an active way. It's an idea we've had for a long time. I was lucky enough to go to Antarctica and get to know it personally, and it was a wonderful experience. Its landscape is beautiful but it also has very difficult and extreme weather conditions. We are happy to help improve the quality of life of the people who live there", says Mario Remondino, founder of Tromen and leader of the project.
The installation process began with a first visit to the Marambio Base, where the terrain was evaluated. Exceeding all expectations, the equipment operated perfectly, even under the harsh wind conditions. After this successful test, the next step was to equip all Argentinean temporary and permanent bases with Tromen salamanders.
The project was carried out with the cooperation of Cocoantar and the technical support of personnel from each base, ensuring a smooth and efficient installation. The predisposition and professionalism of the teams at each base were very important to comply with all the established times and processes.
In addition to the salamanders, Tromen also installed some grills at certain bases, although the next goal is to ensure that all Argentine bases can enjoy a barbecue, matching the experience of the icebreaker Almirante Irizar and the frigate Ara Libertad, both equipped with Tromen grills.
On the icebreaker Irízar, the southernmost asado in the world took place: the grill was lowered and, on the ice, this iconic Argentine ritual was shared. In addition, on the Fragata Libertad, the Tromen grills accompanied each port visited, taking the authentic Argentine asado to different parts of the world, bringing people together and spreading local traditions globally.
"Generating heat in the coldest place on the planet has been one of the greatest challenges we have faced as a company, and its completion marks a significant achievement and satisfaction for our entire team. We thank all the Tromen personnel involved, whose commitment and dedication have been fundamental to the success of this project. As a future project, we would like to reach the Falkland Islands with our products", adds Facundo Caceres, Tromen's Marketing Manager.
