Find your ideal Tromen.
Using a wood stove is an efficient, natural and very pleasant way to heat the home. But to get the most out of it it is key to learn how to optimize the consumption of firewood..
Here are some practical tips to achieve higher thermal efficiency, save energy and protect the environment without compromising comfort.
It is essential to start with a good raw material. Not all woods are the same when it comes to heating.
To achieve an efficient combustion, we recommend using hard firewood (such as quebracho, carob, oak or red eucalyptus), since it has a higher caloric value and burns more slowly than soft wood.
However, if you want to light your wood stoveyou can use soft wood without bark at the beginning, since it lights faster, and then add hard wood.
Another fundamental aspect is that the firewood is dry. Moisture in the wood not only reduces the yield, but also generates more smoke and soot. Ideally, firewood should have been stored for at least six months.
To keep it in good condition, we suggest storing it under a roof, in a ventilated place and with the floor raised off the ground. In this way, you will avoid direct contact with humidity and ensure a much more efficient combustion.
In our blog we tell you and go in depth about what is the best type of firewood for salamanders or Stoves.
A good ignition is key to reduce firewood consumption from the first moment. At Tromen we recommend the use of dry paper or our fire starter tabletsalways avoiding flammable liquids that can damage your stove and generate dangerous combustion.
An effective technique is the "reverse" ignition, where you place the large logs at the base and add the thinner ones together with the paper on top. In this way, the fire is progressively lowered and a sustained flame is achieved from the start, without the need for constant reloading.
Draft and air intake are the great allies for efficient combustion. The draft controls the passage of air through the exhaust duct, while the air intake regulates how the fire is fed.
Open the air intake well at ignition and once the fire is steady, you can reduce it to maintain an even flame.
If your stove has double combustion -like all our Stoves lines- you will notice how it maximizes the use of wood. Stovesyou will notice how the use of wood is maximized, since the system reuses the gases from the first combustion to generate more heat with less consumption.
And do not forget to ventilate the rooms: a well oxygenated space helps the stove to work properly, without losing temperature if it is done in a controlled way.
Periodic maintenance not only extends the life of your stove, but also improves wood consumption.
It is important to remove the accumulated ashes so that the air circulates well through the firebox and to keep the exhaust duct clean, since soot acts as a thermal insulator that reduces the efficiency of the equipment.
If you notice that the fire goes out easily, that it generates a lot of smoke or that the stove does not heat as it used to, it may be a sign that something is not working properly.
In these cases, check the gaskets, the air intake or contact us for a professional check. In our blog you can see how to maintain and clean your salamandra to guarantee a correct and safe operation.
Not all Stoves perform equally. In Tromen we develop wood stoves with technologies that aim to maximize the use of the resource.
Our stoves with double combustion allow a significant reduction in consumption without losing thermal capacity.
Depending on the room you want to heat, you can choose among our different lines:
All our stoves are designed to adapt to different environments and needs and have a HEIGHT performance in Kcal/h, a fundamental data when choosing the ideal model.
At Tromen, we develop our products thinking about giving you real warmth, taking care of your resources and the planet.
